Oriente, mon amour (II)

Adorabili!!

Kokeshi dolls keychains

Here you are, as promised, my new creations orient-style!
First of all, a new serie of lovely keychains: considering the big success of the muffins, (you can find them here) I created these small japanes dolls, kokeshi style. They're all made of felt, swith a big sash made of real kimono fabric. Lovely!!

Chinese beads jewellery

Then, a little collection of jewellery, realized with chinese cloisonné beads. This year the oriental touch will be a must of spring and summer, so I started to work on it.

mini-zakka sets

Last but not least, also made with kimono fabric (but not only that), here you are what I call my mini-zakka sets: a small purse and a small pouch for anything-you-wish. Zakka is a japanese style, essential but also comic-like, a sort of compromise between their rigour and madness that make them the biggest anime creators in the world.
The pattern of the button closed pouch is Keyka Lou (the bubble pouch) while the other is mine.

Obviously whem I'm sewing these cuties I enjoy Far East cuisine: thai vegetarian noodles, white rice with chinese ravioli and prawns sauté with chinese cabbage or jap seafood yaki udon .... all of it with delicious green tea!

Oriente, mon amour... (I)

Happy Year of the Snake to everyone! Today is Chinese New Year's day and the Year of the Snake begins. I am a Snake (could it be different??) so I hope I'll be very lucky this year. - I have also been sorted into Slytherin House by the only and true Sorting Hat, should there be any doubt...

I was thinking of my love for the Orient, in these days. Whether it is the elaborate and sensual Chandela scupture in India, the simplicity of a Shintoist temple in Japan or the complete peace of a classical chinese garden, my heart beats very fast. I had hoped I went to Cambodia during the Christmas Holidays, but for some problems I have not been able to.

Beijing - Forbidden City

So today I just stop and dream of all the beautiful places I have been lucky enough to see so far. And I go back to Beijing, to the Summer Palace,  panting on the Longevity Hill to reach the Pavillon of the Buddist Scent. Or in front of the Temple of the Sky, perfect, round and blue decorated. Or again walking through the pavillons of the Forbidden City.

Shanghai - Mandarin Yu's garden
I go back to Shanghai, in the Mandarin Yu's Garden, with the walls decorated with dragons which bring rain. Or in the Jade Buddha Temple, admiring the bonsai trees on which are tied small ribbons with prayers.

Xi'an - prayers
Da-xu
Guang-xi countryside
Or I see the wooden blocks with the prayers written on, inside the Savage Goose Temple in Xi'an. Or again in Xi'an, tasting the delicious  ravioli, with thousands of different fillings. I loved it.
Also the cruise on Li River, with the oddly -shaped mounts which faded in the morning mist  and Da-xu, which we visited at dusk and while we were walking among the narrow streets every house lighted a red lantern.... a dream

I've never been to Japan but it's a country I really intend to visit.
In order not to bore you too much, today which is sunday I leave you dreaming these beautiful places, and tomorrow I'll show you my new collections, jap-style and china-style!!

Rocce ignee! Formule di Briggs! Sviluppo embrionale! Orbitali atomici! Entalpia! Classificazione delle droghe! Ciclo dell'azoto! Alcani-alcheni-alchini! Continuità delle funzioni! Fotosintesi! Potenziale redox! Formazione del suolo!

I was thinking by myself, at the end of a studying/revising saturday morning....
Which is Ohm's Law? The potential difference within a conductor is the product between the current and the resistance. Is this correct?
Practical application: the knowledge difference in my brain when I finish studying is equal to the product between the mass of information I try to store and my poor brain's resistance (which is: weariness, lack of training, total removal of some issues I had once studied....)
Stevin's Law! Magmatic rocks! Briggs formulae! Embryo development! Atomic orbitals! Enthalpy! Drugs classification! Nitrogen cycle! Alkanes-alkenes-alkynes!  Continuity of a function! Photosynthesis! Redox potential! Soil formation!

(...me at the end of each day....)

kimono sleeves top

I just show you one quick thing, before diving again into my books. I started using my sewing machine not just for the realization of some craft, 'though funny and relaxing, but also to sew myself some dresses. Last summer I made a couple of tops, which I will show you sooner or later, and here you are a winter woolen top, with kimono sleeves.
Do you like it???

Baker Angels (all together)

The days rush by, the books get bigger and heavier and the evenings arrive almost surprising me. I just hope that all of this work will give some results....
But I did not stop all the crafting, the fact is (and I'm very sorry) that I don't have time to update my blog!
So today I want to introduce you my last work: 6 baker angels/dolls. Each of them with a fragrant and decorated cupcake in her hands....
I like when I can work on the same model but making different kinds: I have the chance to get together different fabric patterns, to choose the perfect lace or ribbon, to find the little touch that makes each of them unique and special.
So here you are the pics: as requested three are lilac, two pink and one red.
 What do you think????

Sorry for being so quick, but I have to get back to my books (I feel a bit Hermione-like...)!!!

Studying

Well, I didn't remember how though it is to study!!!
I have to say this, I have brought down from the upper shelf all of my university books 'cause I'm studing to prepare the exam to become a teacher! After passing the pre-selection test, the time has come to go again through all the programs of maths, chemistry, physics, biology and earth sciences. Just a quick observation: I feel the competence evaluation is not well balanced between all the subjects and it favours very much maths and physics. Also the specialistic book I'm using to study concentrates too much on these two. I mean, it doesn't even explain all the components of a cell! And, speaking of pollution, it just talks about of water poolution. And all the rest? Maybe this comes from my previous experience, where I worked on air pollution and the relative toxicology, but it stroke me a bit...

Anyway, my table is once again full of paper, schemes, ruler and pencils. Let's hope everything goes fine, I'd really love to teach! I'm sorry I have understood it so late. But maybe all the experience I have accumulated, some day will be useful, even if now I do not know.

Facile, no??

In the meantime, as studying costs effort but dreaming doesn't, I have created this little "dream calendar" in order to decorate a small corser of my living room of which I am not still convinced. I used a 12-pictures IKEA frame (Finlir) in which I placed 12 pictures out of my "Dream Travels Book". Places I've never been to but which attract me much...
In this way, every month I dream a little. Easy, isn't it?

Dasvidania!

And the new year has also brought me the inspiration for my 2013 travel destination. Do you want some clue or I let you guess??

Chocolate & Coffee Cupcakes

Buon anno a tutti!!

chocolate and coffee cupcakes

Hi there, Happy New Year!!
How was your holiday?? I hope you all got relaxed and rested and now are ready to begin a ney year!!
So, as my forst post this year I give you a recipe, althoug the holidays are over and we all need a bit of diet, don't we?? This is fairly quick and very effective: the chocolate and coffee cupcakes.
Well, I still have to practice with my sac-a-poche, to make the decoration regular and precise, but aren't they lovely also to see???

Ricetta
Per i cupcakes: - for the cupcakes
60 gr cioccolato fondente (60 g of dark chocolate)
40 gr di burro (40 g of butter)
90 gr di zucchero di canna (90 g of brown sugar)
1 uovo (1 egg)
90 gr farina 00 (90 g of white flour)
1/2  di cucchiaino lievito per dolci (1/2 teaspoon of rising powder)
1/2 di cucchiaino di bicarbonato (1/2 teaspoon of baking soda)
1 pizzico di sale (a pinch of salt)
125 ml di latte (125 ml of milk)

Per la buttercream al caffè: - for the coffee buttercream
100 gr di burro (100 g of butter)
110 gr di zucchero a velo (110 g of icing sugar)
2 cucchiai di caffè (2 tablespoons of coffee)

chocolate and coffee cupcakes

Melt the chocolate in a double boiler al let it get completely cold. In a bowl work together the butter with the brown sugar until you have a soft cream, Add the yolk stirring very well. Beat the egg white until stiff in another bowl. Add the chocolate to the sugar stirring well.
In another bowl mix together the flour, the raising powder, the baking soda and a pinch of salt and add it all to the chocolate alternating it with the milk. At the end add the stiffened egg white. Work it all together to make it consistent.
Distribute the compound into the cupcake cases but don't go over the two thirds of the case. Cook in the overn at 190°c for about 10 minutes, then let them get cold.
In the meantime prepare the buttecream: work together the softened butter with the icing sugar, add the cold coffee and mix it well. Put the buttercream into a sac-a-poche and use it to decorate the cupcakes, ending with some chocolate chips.

ps: this recipe makes about 36 mini cupcakes :-)

Lovely.
